Skid Design and Detailing

Skid Design and Detailing

We design the modular skids as a complete plug-and-play solution built within a robust steel framework. All process components are integrated into a single engineered system instead of being treated as separate components.

We combine all engineering disciplines into our designs and deliver fabrication-ready documentation.

Efficient and Scalable Modular Skid Solutions

Efficient and Scalable Modular Skid Solutions

We optimise our skid design process around project specifications to support efficient fabrication and accelerated site execution. Our team validates the operational performance of the design through process simulations before final placement and foundation attachment.

Plant operations can proceed without bottlenecks, as skid systems are fabricated offsite in a secure and controlled environment.

How we execute the designs:

  • We prepare an estimation of utilities required to integrate the skid into the plant. The utilities are aligned with applicable standards and codes before commencing design work.
  • A full modular skid is modelled in 3D based on the initial equipment arrangement layout, coordinating all disciplines within the model.
  • Pipe stress analysis and structural steel frame analysis and design are performed to determine the operating capacity of the components within the skid. A report detailing dimensions and maximum allowable weight limits is used for safe transportation.
  • Following the review and approval of the 3D skid model, the fabrication package—containing GA drawings, structural fabrication drawings, piping isometrics, electrical and instrumentation drawings, and installation interface documents—is issued for release.

Simplifying Complexity with Custom Skids

Simplifying Complexity with Custom Skids

We design skid systems that can handle dynamic loads and transportation stress.

The structural stability of the steel frame remains intact while providing adequate support for internal components—piping, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and more—to prevent misalignment, vibration, and spills.

Challenges we help eliminate during the skid design process:

  • Reduce installation-related risks by resolving conflicts—maintenance access, process requirements, and transport clearance—through engineering judgment.
  • Ensure clash-free and constructable skid models ready for fabrication drawings development.
  • Design the skid structure to withstand loads while maintaining the integrity of pipe supports and equipment, ensuring it arrives undamaged, fully prepared for installation.
  • Define pipe tie-in connections clearly enough to make field connections without ambiguity.
  • Ensure the skid design and vendor equipment submissions are completed in the same timeline to avoid delay in equipment delivery.

Risk Optimised Skid Solutions

Risk Optimised Skid Solutions

A well-engineered modular skid changes the risk profile of your project at the design conception stage itself.

Its benefits extend beyond just schedule compression; it improves assembly quality, reduces fabrication costs, and resolves installation issues, making it ideal for space-constrained plants.

Safe Installation and Performance

Safe Installation and Performance

We consider future modifications, relocations, and flexibility factors in our skid design process. Equipment layout, access paths, and lifting points are all planned in advance, reducing exposure to construction risks and rework.

Faster Assembly

Faster Assembly

Our designs minimise on-field adjustments, so components connect smoothly on-site. Pipe routing, nozzle orientation, and elevation are all aligned during the design stage.

Reduce Damages and Costs

Reduce Damages and Costs

Layouts produced through a 3D modular process skid design prevent pipe clashes, misalignment, and equipment interference, resulting in fewer damaged components and cost wastage.

High-Quality Assembly

High-Quality Assembly

Skid designs undergo a rigorous verification process through compliance and pre-fabrication checks. Early verification results in smooth fabrication without redesign.

Frequently Asked Questions

Modular Skid Design Services FAQs

It's a structural frame built to contain part of an industrial process system. The modular skid supports all components, such as piping, valves, pumps, etc. The skid is constructed away from the main operation site and can be easily transported for installation within an existing operational plant.
In stick-built construction, a piping system is assembled and installed at the operational location, while a modular skid is fabricated at a controlled location. The former is dependent on on-site conditions, while the latter can be installed and transported to the final location post quality checks.
The physical components of a modular skid design package include all the materials and equipment required to connect to the existing plant. The packaged system comprises a piping system, instrumentation and controls, and pipe tie-in connections. The package can operate independently or be integrated into a larger industrial process system, depending on the client’s requirements.
The design process begins by identifying skid requirements and evaluating integration to improve process efficiency. The layout and location influence material choice, transportation and installation methods. The final modular skid design is reviewed against applicable standards and codes before receiving clearance for factory testing.
A modular skid is designed to reduce production time and save costs by improving installation efficiency. It can be installed and tested in an off-site facility while regular operations remain uninterrupted at the main site. Modular skid designs incorporate only the required materials, thereby minimising material wastage.
Modular skid designs can accommodate existing equipment by adjusting the dimensions and selecting compatible materials. Piping and systems are sized to facilitate smooth integration of the skid with the existing process. New skids are designed with future expansion in mind, allowing equipment additions and sufficient space for modifications.
The engineering and design deliverables for a modular skid design include drawings, models, and installation documents. The deliverables package can contain 3D models of the skid frame, BOM (Bill of Materials), process flow diagrams, instructions for factory testing, and lifting and transportation. These help on-site engineers connect the skid with the existing piping system of an industrial plant.
Sedin Engineering works according to your project specifications to provide modular skid designs that are thoroughly verified and can be assembled with minimal on-field adjustments. We review the design for potential risks, delays and clashes before finalising it for fabrication. We ensure a smoother, more efficient installation process by assessing load capacity, utility requirements and transportation stress.
